US Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Swimmer Off Bolsa Chica State Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search early Sunday for a swimmer who entered the water and didn't return to shore Saturday, authorities said.

Three swimmers were reported missing by a witness at 5:14 p.m. at Bolsa Chica State Beach, according to firefighters. Two swimmers were rescued and taken to hospitals.

The still-missing swimmer was identified as 18-year-old Shaun Linn, according to U. S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Sandra Kneen. The Coast Guard planned to resume the search if there are new reports of a possible sighting.

Linn failed to resurface about 50 to 100 yards from the beach, according to the Coast Guard, which sent a helicopter and a 45-foot rescue boat to the search, Kneen said. The Orange County Sheriff's Department also had a helicopter and Harbor Patrol boat in the search and state lifeguards were involved.

Linn was reported to be wearing red and white trunks, according to the Coast Guard, which asked anyone with information to call 310-521-3801.
