Woman Killed, 6 Others Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Arleta

A woman has died and six people were injured Saturday in a multi-vehicle crash in Arleta.

The crash was reported about 9:25 a.m. at Van Nuys and Laurel Canyon boulevards, according to Los Angeles police.

A green 2003 Ford Explorer was eastbound on Van Nuys Boulevard when it collided with a black 2017 Kia Optima leaving a private driveway on the south side of Van Nuys Boulevard, police said.

The Kia driver appeared to lose consciousness from the crash and the car ran off the roadway, continued eastbound on the north sidewalk and slammed into a wall, knocked over a mature tree and a female pedestrian before crossing Van Nuys Boulevard and knocking down a light pole, police said.

The pedestrian -- whose identity has not been released -- was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Kia driver, Raul Olmos, 28, of Pacoima, suffered severe injuries, police said.

An adult passenger in the Kia's front seat and children ages seven, eight and 11 in the back seat suffered moderate to severe injuries.

Explorer driver Heriberto Bautista, 38, of Pacoima, suffered minor injuries.
