Quake Alert System Could Afford Angelenos Precious Seconds
Although scientists cannot predict earthquakes, Dr. Lucy Jones, with U.S. Geological Survey, explains how an earthquake warning system would work to alert residents about 60 seconds before the ground starts rumbling. State lawmakers introduced legislation Monday for the $80 million project. Funding has been stalled by budget cuts at the state and federal level.
