Sha'Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas lead Team USA to track gold, women's basketball advances to finals

Spain and France played an entertaining final, but it was Spain that came out on top with a 5-3 win to claim the gold medal in men's soccer at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Four-time Olympic swimming medalist Summer Sanders makes sure to bring her silver and bronze medals, in addition to her two gold medals, to appearances to show people how special they are to her:

Olivia Reeves was in a class all her own in the women's 71kg competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning the United States' first weightlifting gold medal in 24 years.

Team USA's Helen Maroulis pinned her opponent in 24 seconds to earn bronze in women's 57kg freestyle wrestling. The bronze is Maroulis' third Olympic medal.

With breaking making its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Snoop Dogg appeared in front of the thousands of fans of the event to officially kick of the event.

It's a double Team USA vs. France matchup in basketball at the Paris Olympics.

France beat Belgium 81-75 in overtime in their women's basketball semifinal matchup Friday, pitting Les Bleus against Team USA, which beat Australia earlier in the day.

On the men's side is also a U.S. vs. France matchup. LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama and Co. will take the court Saturday.

The women's matchup is slated for Sunday.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif on Friday easily defeated Yang Liu of China for the gold medal in the 66kg weight class.

Khelif becomes her country's second boxing gold medalist, joining Hocine Soltani (1996).

Khelif has fought in Paris while enduring waves of online abuse over misconceptions about her sex.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is one win away from her first Olympic gold.

Khelif, who made headlines after a gender outcry, will take on China's Yang Liu in the women's welterweight final Friday.

Regardless of the result, Khelif, 25, will claim her first Olympic medal as she continues her dominant Paris run.

Liu, 32, has also never won gold -- or any medal -- at the Olympics.

Rai Benjamin is the gold medalist in the men's 400m hurdles.

Benjamin, 27, posted a season-best score of 46.46 as he seized the lead after 200m and never looked back.

Norway's Karsten Warholm took silver at 47.06 while Brazil's Alison dos Santos won bronze at 47.26.

Jamaica's Roshawn Clarke led the first 200m, but eventually slowed and did not finish.

Ami Yuasi had the moves.

Yuasi, competing simply under the name Ami, used an impressive array of dance moves to best Lithuania's Nicka in the first ever breaking gold medal battle.

The battle featured two breaking superstars. A year ago, Nicka became the youngest ever breaking world champion, at 16. The year before, Ami won her second breaking world championship.

But on the biggest stage the sport has ever seen, Ami proved to be the better breaker.

Breaking seemed to capture the attention of people around the world -- although not necessarily for the right reasons. Many on social media were stunned that the competition, in which Andy Bernard would fit right in, was in the Olympics at all.

Jordan Diaz of Spain claimed gold in the men's triple jump Friday, posting a score of 17.86m.

Portugal's Pedro Pichardo took silver with a 17.84m score, while Italy's Andy Diaz earned bronze at 17.64m.

Team USA's Salif Mane finished sixth at 17.41m.

Team USA's Olivia Reeves won gold on Friday in women's 71kg weightlifting at the Paris Olympics.

Reeves set an Olympic record in the snatch (117kg).

Mari Leivis Sanchez of Colombia took silver, while Angie Paola Palacios Dajomes of Ecuador earned the bronze.

It is the second gold medal for a female US weightlifter; Tara Nott-Cunningham won the country's first in 2000.

Kenya's Beatrice Chebet became the third woman to ever pull off the distance double at an Olympics after winning the 10,000m final. Chebet, who won the 5,000m gold earlier in these Games, finished Friday's 25-lap race in 30:43.25.

Italy's Nadia Battocletti finished second in 30:43.35 and reigning gold medalist Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands came in third with a time of 30:44.12. Hassan actually pulled off the distance double at the previous Games in Tokyo.

Team USA's Weini Kelati Frezghi, Karissa Schweizer and Parker Valby placed eighth, ninth and 11th, respectively, in the 25-runner final.

Team USA's Helen Maroulis won a bronze medal in the women's freestyle 57-kilogram event on Friday.

The American star defeated Canada's Hannah Taylor 4-0.

Only two B-Girls remain.

Japan's Ami and Lithuania's Nicka will battle for the first every gold medal awarded in breaking.

Ami beat India (who is not from India - she's from the Netherlands) in the first semifinal, and Nicka but China's 671.

Germany's Yemisi Ogunleye won women's shot put gold in dramatic fashion, recording a throw of 20 meters on her last attempt of the final.

New Zealand's Maddison-Lee Wesche had overtaken Ogunleye for first when she recorded 19.86m on her fifth throw. Wesche took silver and China's Song Jiayuan earned bronze with a top throw of 19.32m.

American Jaida Ross finished one spot off the podium (18.91m), while U.S. reigning silver medalist Raven Saunders (17.79m) placed 11th in the 12-athlete final.

Spain had been waiting more than 30 years to get back on top of the podium in men's soccer. So, what was a few extra minutes longer?

The team surrendered a two-goal lead in the second half before defeating France 5-3 in extra time to avenge it's loss in the last Olympic title game and capture its first gold medal since 1992. 

Sergio Camello chipped the goalie from inside the box in the 100th minute to put Spain back in front minutes into extra time. He then scored on a breakaway goal in added time to seal the gold medal.

Spain was playing in its fifth men's soccer final, tying Brazil for the most in Olympic history. Spain took silver in 1920, 2000 and 2020.

Enzo Millot gave France an early lead after opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Spain answered quickly when Fermin Lopez netted the equalizer seven minutes later. Lopez then gave Spain the advantage when he scored in the 25th minute for a 2-1 lead.

Team USA's Aaron Brooks won a bronze medal in the men's freestyle 86-kilogram event on Friday.

The American star defeated Javrail Shapiev of Uzbekistan 5-0.

Team USA's Spencer Lee won a silver medal in the men's freestyle 57-kilogram final on Friday.

The American star fell to Japan's Rei Higuchi 4-2.

Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won gold Friday in the women's 400m at the Paris Olympics, setting an Olympic record with a time of 48.17.

Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain took silver, while Poland's Natalia Kaczmarek earned bronze.

Team USA's Alexis Holmes finished sixth.

A bad exchange early in the men's 4x100m relay thwarted the United States' hopes of snapping its medal drought in the event.

Americans Christian Coleman and Kenny Bednarek collided with each other on the first exchange of the baton, leaving the U.S. with too much ground to make up.

Shortly after the race, Team USA received a DQ for passing the baton outside of the takeover zone. The Americans were looking for their first medal in the relay since the 2004 Athens Games.

Canada won the race in 37.50 seconds, followed by South Africa (37.57) and Great Britain (37.61).

The U.S. women’s basketball team is eyeing an eighth.

Team USA is one victory away from extending its Olympic dynasty with an eighth-straight gold medal after defeating Australia 85-64 in Friday’s semifinal matchup.

The U.S. advances to Sunday’s championship game, where it will play the winner of France and Belgium at 9:30 a.m. ET/6:30 a.m. PT.

Breanna Stewart had a team-high 16 points for the U.S., which shot 50% from the field in the win. Jackie Young scored 14 points, Kahleah Copper had 11 points and A’ja Wilson added 10. The U.S. led throughout, with its lead reaching as many as 27 points.

The United States improved to 9-0 against Australia in women’s basketball at the Olympics – which also included wins in the gold medal game in 2000, ‘04 and ’08; the semifinals in 1996 and 2012; and the quarterfinals in 2021.

The United States' duo of Jennifer Valente and Lily Williams finished one spot off the podium in the second-ever Olympic women's Madison event.

Italians Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini won the 120-lap track cycling race with 37 points. Great Britain's Elinor Barker and Neah Evans claimed silver with 31 points, while the Netherlands' Maike van der Duin and Lisa van Belle took bronze with 28 points.

Team USA tallied 18 points for a fourth-place finish in the event that debuted at the pandemic-delayed 2020 Tokyo Games.

Team USA will not medal in the first Olympics b-girls breaking competition.

Logistx and Sunny were both eliminated after the Round Robin.

Logistx finished third in Group B. She won her first battle 2-0, lost her second battle 2-0 and tied her third battle 1-1. With three round wins, she came up one round shy of advancing out of the group (top two in each group advance).

Sunny finished third in Group A. After losing her first two battles 2-0, she defeated Portugal's Vanessa 2-0 in her final battle.

The quarterfinals will begin on Friday at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, followed by the semifinals and final.

The U.S. women’s basketball team is one quarter away from a return trip to yet another gold-medal game.

Team USA leads Australia 66-40 through three quarters in Friday’s semifinal matchup. The U.S. entered the third quarter with an 18-point advantage, with the lead reaching 27 points in the third on a three-point play by Breanna Stewart with 2:45 left.

Stewart leads the way with 16 points, Jackie Young has 14 and A'ja Wilson has 10.

With a win, the United States will advance to Sunday’s championship game against France or Belgium with a chance to capture an eighth-straight gold medal.

Team USA’s Kyle Dake fell short in the men’s wrestling freestyle 74 kilograms semifinals on Friday.

He lost to Japan’s Daichi Takatani 20-12.

Takatani will advance to the gold medal match while Dake will compete for his second consecutive bronze for Team USA.

Sport climber Toby Roberts of Great Britain dominated the lead portion of the men's bouldering/lead combined final to win Olympic gold with a total score of 155.2 points.

Darja Varfolomeev won gold in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around competition on Friday. The 17-year-old, who left her native Russia for Germany five years ago in search of Olympic glory, found it in Paris.

Varfolomeev posted the highest score in all four events — hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon — on her way to a total of 142.850, well clear of silver medalist Boryana Kaleyn of Bulgaria and bronze medalist Sofia Raffaeli of Italy.

A matchup between familiar foes seems headed for a familiar result.

The U.S. women's basketball team had a strong start to the second quarter against Australia in Friday’s semifinal matchup en route to taking a 45-27 lead into halftime. The two teams have met eight times in the Olympics, with the U.S. winning each matchup.  

Team USA opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run, capped with a jumper by A'ja Wilson to take a 32-16 lead with 6:35 remaining in the half.

Breanna Stewart had 11 points to lead the U.S., which shot 53% from the field. Jackie Young scored eight of her 10 points in the first quarter to help build an early lead.

The United States, seeking an eighth-straight gold medal, is looking to secure a spot in Sunday’s championship game against the winner of France and Belgium.

The round robin of b-girls breaking is almost over.

Team USA's Logistx's battled France's Syssy to a 1-1 tie, earning 10 of 18 votes from from the judges. But the number of round wins is what determines who moves on, so Logistx will not have enough to move on to the quarterfinals.

Sunny, meanwhile, lost 2-0 against the Netherlands' India as she's now lost her first two battles. She will be back on the floor for the final battle of the round robin against Portugal's Vanessa.

After three rounds of play, New Zealand's Lydia Ko and Switzerland's Morgane Metraux share the 54-hole lead at 9-under.

Team USA's Rose Zhang shot 5-under Friday and sits in the bronze medal position at 7-under. Defending gold medalist, and No. 1 ranked player in the world, US' Nelly Korda (4-under) bounced back from an uneven second round, but trails by five strokes heading into the final round tomorrow.

Jackie Young had a perfect start to help the U.S. women's basketball team take an early lead over Australia in a semifinal matchup.

Young was 4-for-4 from the field for eight points to give Team USA a 20-16 lead after the first quarter.

The U.S. took advantage of early Australia turnovers and hit seven of its first nine shots, capped by Young's layup in transition for a quick 14-4 lead. Australia went on a 7-0 run late in the quarter to pull within two.

The United States is seeking an eighth-straight gold medal. Australia has never defeated the U.S. women's basketball team in the Olympics, going 0-8, including a quarterfinal loss three years ago in Tokyo. 

The winner of Friday's game will play either France or Belgium in the final on Sunday.

The U.S. men’s volleyball secured bronze in a 3-0 win over Italy. The Americans won 25-23, 30-28, 26-24.

The result is reassuring for the U.S. after a disappointing trip to the Tokyo Olympics, where they were eliminated in pool play. 

Since winning their last gold medal in Beijing in 2008, the Americans have two medals (bronze in Rio and Paris) in their last four Olympics.

With a back leg to the torso in the final seconds of the second round, Tunisia's Firas Katousi stunned America's CJ Nickolas, knocking him out of the semifinal of the men's 80 kilogram taekwondo tournament.

Nickolas, who finished second in the World Championships last year and was considered America's best medal hope in taekwondo, struggled with Katousi's height throughout the semifinal match. Katousi, a towering 6-foot-8, used his long legs to create space between himself and Nickolas.

Neither fighter landed a blow in the first round, but Katousi still won the round. In the second round, Nickolas built a two-point lead and seemed poised to force a decisive third round, until Tunisia landed the body blow with less than three seconds remaining.

Katousi advances to the gold medal match, and Nickolas will fight for the bronze.

The U.S. men's volleyball team is up 2-0 in sets over Italy in the volleyball bronze medal match.

The Americans secured the second set 30-28, saving two set points.

One more set will earn the U.S. an Olympic bronze medal.

As the round robin for breaking continues, American b-girls Sunny and Logistx were back on the floor.

Sunny lost her battle with 671, with the judges voting 16-2 in favor of the Chinese b-girl.

Logistx, after winning her first round robin battle against Australia's Raygun, lost to Lithuania's Nicka 13-5 in her second battle of the day.

The U.S. men's volleyball team is up 1-0 in sets over Italy in the volleyball bronze medal match. The Americans secured the first set 25-23.

Logistx defeated Australia's Raygun unanimously, winning both rounds and receiving all 18 votes from the judges.

Breaking is underway at the 2024 Olympics -- and Snoop Dogg helped drop it like its hot.

The hip-hop icon, who has been anywhere and everywhere throughout the Games, helped introduce all the athletes at the beginning of the b-girls competition.

American taekwondo star CJ Nickolas advanced to the semifinals of the 80-kilogram competition with a 2-0 win over Faysal Sawadogo of Burkina Faso.

Nickolas landed two head kicks to take the first round, 7-5, then connected on a four-point turning kick to the body with 17 seconds left in the second round to pull even, 9-9. As time expired in the second round, Sawadogo was called for gam-jeom (an illegal punch), giving Nickolas the round and the match.

Nickolas was considered Team USA's best medal hope entering the Olympics He placed second at the 2023 World Championships.

He now advances to the semifinals, where he will face either Denmark's Edi Hrnic or Tunisia's Firas Katoussi. The seminfinal match will take place at 10:50 a.m. ET.

Valentin Bontus of Austria has taken gold after winning two finals races in men’s kitesurfing which is the new, fastest sport at the Summer Olympics. 

Friday's medals bring to a close sailing competitions in Marseille. Toni Vodisek of Slovenia got silver while Max Maeder of Singapore won bronze in finals that had been repeatedly postponed because the breeze was too light.

Fickle winds and high temperatures in Marseille have wreaked havoc with the program and tested athletes’ endurance ever since the regattas for the first of the 10 sailing events started on July 28.

Serbia took out the U.S. in the men's water polo semifinals on Friday 10-6.

The Serbians will be going for their third straight Olympic gold medal, awaiting the winner of Hungary and Croatia for the finals matchup.

The U.S. will be back in action for the bronze medal match on Sunday, where they will take on the loser of Hungary and Croatia.

Breaking is finally making its debut in Paris -- just a few days before the Olympics wrap up.

It'll kickstart with a women's pre-qualifier between the Netherlands' India and the Refugee Olympic Team's Talash at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.

When the women's round robin action starts shortly after, two U.S. Olympians will be involved: Logistx and Sunny.

The gold medal match in B-Girls action is slated for 3:19 p.m. ET/12:19 p.m. PT.

Serbia is in command of the U.S. in the men's water polo semifinals.

Serbia has an 8-6 lead over Team USA with goals from Nikola Dedovic (7:10) and Nemanja Vico (5:14). The U.S. received goals from Mark Vavic (6:37) and Alex Bowen (4:42).

The fourth quarter is now underway.

The Olympics' newest sport, breaking, debuts in just 45 minutes.

Rose Zhang shoots up the leaderboard and is close to a medal position in the third round of the women's golf competition. Through 9 holes, Zhang is tied for 4th place at -5 (-3 today). Switzerland's Morgane Metraux leads at -8.

Serbia is leading the U.S. 6-4 in the men's water polo semifinals.

The second quarter saw goals from Serbia's Petar Jaksic (4:22), Nikola Jaksc (3:45) and two goals from Nikola Dedovic (2:57 and 1:13) while Luva Cupido (3:23) and Ben Hallock (2:27) scored for the U.S.

The third quarter is now underway.

Team USA and Serbia are tied 2-2 in the men's water polo semifinals at the end of the first quarter.

Mark Vavic (6:32) and Ryder Dodd (2:56) gave the U.S. its first two goals while Nikola Jaksic (3:39) and Sava Randelovic (1:28) executed for Serbia.

The second quarter is now underway.

Ten Olympians are taking part in the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around final, which began at 8:30 a.m. ET Friday.

The four rotations involved are hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon, where each gymnast will tally scores before having the totals added to determine the three that makes the podium.

Germany and Italy each have two gymnasts in the field.

The water polo semifinal match between Team USA and Serbia is underway.

The last time the Americans won a gold medal at the Olympics was in 2008, while Serbia took home gold in the past two Olympic Games.

The other semifinal features Hungary and Croatia.

With about 48 hours of competition left in these Olymipcs, the battle for gold supremacy is as tight as it can be.

China's Shixiao Xu and Mengya Sun won gold in the women's canoe double 500-meter race this morning. That gives China 30 gold medals, the same as the United States.

There are lots of ways to carve up the medal count. If you're looking at total medals, the U.S. pretty much has that wrapped — leading China, 103-74. But if you're just looking at golds, it looks like it will come down to the wire.

The U.S. hopes to add to its gold total today — Americans will be competing for gold in a handful of events, including in the men's and women's 4x100 relays, wrestling and breaking.

If the U.S. wants to go for gold in men's water polo, it'll have to knock out the back-to-back Olympic champions in the semifinals Friday.

Team USA will meet Serbia, which won gold in Rio and Tokyo and has the talent to do so again in Paris.

The U.S. last reached the podium in the sport at the 2008 Beijing Games, where it finished as silver winners.

Serbia's last time failing to make the podium was in 2000. It earned silver in 2004 as Serbia and Montenegro.

Hungary and Croatia are the other semifinal matchup. Hungary won bronze in Tokyo, while Croatia took silver in Rio.

American climber Colin Duffy missed the podium in Paris for the men's boulder and lead/final lead by three points. After entering the lead wall phase in second place, Duffy was only able to climb to the 60-point hold and was surpassed by several opponents.

Toby Roberts is taking gold for Great Britain after the leader of the boulder round, Japan's Anraku Sorato, dropped off just after the 60-point hold. Sorato needed 88 points to win, but came in second with 76.1 for a total score of 145.4.

Jack Schubert of Austria came from behind in the boulder round to reach the highest hold of any competitor in the lead wall. The boost helped propel him in the leaderboard to take home the bronze.

Germany's Jacob Schopf and Max Lemke took the lead in the first 25 meters and never let it go, winning gold in the men's kayak double 500-meter race with a time of 1:26.87.

Hungaray's Bence Nadas and Sandor Totka took silver in 1:27.15, and Australia's Jean van der Westhuyzen and Tom Green took bronze in 1:27.29.

USA's Jonas Ecker and Aaron Small finished in 7th place.

Kyle Dake has reached the final four.

The U.S. men's wrestler defeated Iran's Yones Emamichoghaei by fall in an 11-1 victory in a freestyle 74-kilogram quarterfinal match.

Dake advances to face Daichi Takatani of Japan in the semifinals.

Team USA's best chance at a medal in the heptathlon belongs to Anna Hall.

Hall set a personal best of 45.99m on her second javelin throw to finish third in Group A, which moved her up to fifth on the overall leaderboard with one event left. She has 5,567 points, just 127 behind third-place Annik Kaelan of Switzerland. Belgium's Nafi Thiam leads the field with 5,924 points.

Two other American athletes have fallen out of medal contention. Taliyah Brooks was 10th in Group A and fell to 10th on the overall leaderboard. Chari Hawkins, ninth in Group B, is 21st on the overall leaderboard.

The heptathlon will conclude with the 800m at 2:15 p.m. ET/11:15 a.m. PT on Friday.

The United States' gold-medal streak in women's wrestling has been snapped.

Kayla Miracle was narrowly defeated in the 62-kilograms quarterfinal by Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova, who won on points in the 6-6 match.

Miracle was pursuing the United States' third gold medal in women's wrestling at the Paris Olympics, following Amit Elor and Sarah Hildebrandt.

The eight climbers are now taking the lead wall. They each get six minutes to make it up as many holds as possible. The top 10 holds are worth four points each, the next 10 are worth three points each, the next 10 are two points, and the next 10 are one point. If they fail to make that stage of the wall, they'll score no points.

American Colin Duffy was the second climber to go and needed 60 points to take the lead. He hit the 60 hold and received 68.1 points for a total score of 136.4. There's six climbers still to go. Duffy is hoping to make it to the podium in Paris after just missing it in Tokyo with a fourth place finish.

Quincy Wilson is breaking barriers for the Americans.

The 16-year-old star made history on Friday as the youngest American man to compete in track and field at the Olympics.

Wilson split 47.27 to lead off the Team USA 4x400 meter relay in the preliminary, but the Americans still advanced to the final after finishing third in 2:59.15.

Diver Brandon Loschiavo is onto the semifinals of the 10-meter platform with a score of 393.65.

Loschiavo's last dive, a forward 4 1/2 somersault tuck, helped drive up his total score to secure his spot in the top 18 qualifiers moving on.

Carson Tyler missed the semis by just two points. While Tyler performed three high-difficulty degree dives, he only earned 48.6 points on one of them and faced hard deductions on his fourth dive for reaching his legs too far back on the break. He's ranked 19th with a score of 363.75.

Team USA athletes Grace Stark, Alaysha Johnson and Masai Russell have all advanced to the women's 100m hurdles final.

Stark won the first semifinal with a time of 12.39, Johnson won the second semifinal at 12.34 and Russell was second in the third semifinal at 12.42.

The three Americans will compete in the final against Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Bahamas' Devynne Charlton, Netherlands' Nadine Visser, Jamaica's Ackera Nugent and France's Cyrena Samba-Mayela.

On just the second-to-last full day of competition in Paris, a new sport is making its much-anticipated Olympic debut: Breaking.

Breaking is essentially breakdancing, with judges scoring the dance moves.

Judging is based on creativity, personality, technique, variety, performativity and musicality, and scores can fluctuate throughout a breaking battle based on how breakers respond to their opponents.

Unlike in figure skating or gymnastics, competitors are unaware of the music ahead of time — the improvisation element carries great weight in the judging.

The U.S. men's wrestler was defeated 10-5 by Mongolia's Lkhagvagerel Munkhtur in the 125-kilogram on Friday.

Munkhtur advances to the quarterfinals to face the winner of Giorgi Meshvildishvili of Azerbaijan and Diaaeldin Abdelmottaleb of Egypt.

The U.S. men's wrestler dominated Venezuela's Anthony Montero 10-0 in the freestyle 74-kilograms to advance to the quarterfinals.

He will face Yones Emamichoghaei of Iran on Friday.

Bryce Hoppel is moving on to the men's 800m final.

He finished second in the third semifinal with a time of 1:43.41 to automatically advance. Americans Brandon Miller and Hobbs Kessler missed out after finishing fifth and sixth in the first and second semifinals, respectively.

Hoppel will compete in the gold medal race against Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Great Britain's Max Burgin, Spain's Mohamed Attaoui, Canada's Marco Arop, Algeria's Djamel Sedjati, France's Gabriel Tual and Botswana's Tshepiso Masalela.

The final is set for Saturday at 1:25 p.m. ET/10:25 a.m. PT.

Kayla Miracle kept the United States' quest for another gold medal in women's wrestling alive after defeating Turkey's Nesrin Bas 12-2 in the freestyle 62-kilograms.

Miracle advances to face Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinal.

Miracle is seeking to become the third American women's wrestler to win gold in recent days -- joining Amit Elor and Sarah Hildebrandt. That would be one more than the U.S. women's wrestling team captured in its first five trips to the Games combined.

With just 26 seconds on the clock, Colin Duffy reached the top hold of the final boulder and leaped to the lead of the board in the boulder phase with a score of 68.3. He was the only climber to achieve the feat on the final wall.

But the 20-year-old from Broomfield, Colorado, was knocked out by the last competitor, Anraku Sorato of Japan, who reached the high zone for a total of 69.3 points. Duffy, Corato and Toby Roberts of Great Britain are the only climbers with two top holds.

The lead finals will take place at 6:35 a.m. ET.

Jonas Ecker and Aaron Small turned in one of their best performances in the men's kayak doubles 500 meter semifinal, finishing in fourth place — good enough to advance to the finals.

The German, Hungarian and Czech teams finished in the top three, but the top four boats in each semifinal advance to the finals.

The finals will be held today at 7:20 a.m. ET.

The U.S. men's 4x400-meter relay team is moving on to the final.

Team USA finished third in the first heat, the final automatic qualifying position. Chris Bailey passed Japan's Kentaro Sato in the final 100 meters to send the U.S. back into the final, where it won gold in the Tokyo Olympics.

Quincy Wilson, making his Olympic debut at just 16 years old, was the first runner for Team USA, followed by Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon and Bailey.

Bostwana won the race and Great Britain finished second to qualify for the final.

Eight finalists — including American Colin Duffy — have four Boulder problems to solve. Reaching the low zone earns five points, the high zone earns 10 points, and a top 25 points on the first attempt. 0.1 point is deducted for each extra attempt required to reach each zone.

At the halfway point, Duffy is currently in second place. The Colorado native had a frustrating start in his first climb and took several attempts to get to the 10 point mark. However, he rebounded strongly and reached the top in seven tries. In his second climb, he made it to the high zone in nine tries before the clock ran out.

Anna Hall, Taliyah Brooks and Chari Hawkins continued to compete in the heptathlon for Team USA on Friday with the long jump.

Brooks jumped 6.15m in her third and final attempt to lead the way for the U.S. Hall posted her best distance in the first round at 5.93m. Hawkins' best distance of 5.90m came in her second jump.

With the javelin throw and 800m still to come in the heptathlon, Hall and Brooks remain in contention to earn a medal. Hall sits sixth with 4,784 points and Brooks is eighth with 4,706 points. Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson leads the way with 5,030 points.

Hawkins no-heighted in the high jump, meaning she is out of medal contention with no points in that event.

The defending women's 4x400m relay gold medalists are off to a good start in Paris.

Quanera Hayes, Shamier Little, Aaliyah Butler and Kaylyn Brown pulled away from the pack to win the first heat of the women's 4x400m relay on Friday.

Team USA took an early advantage on a clean handoff from Hayes to Little, and was never challenged the rest of the way. Brown crossed the line over three seconds ahead of second-place Great Britain with a time of 3:21.44.

Kristóf Rasovszky of Hungary won the men’s 10-kilometer marathon race by just 2.1 seconds.

It was a redemption for Kristof Rasovszky of Hungary, who won gold in the men's 10-kilometer marathon swimming in Paris after finishing second in Tokyo.

Rasovszky took the lead for good at the 6.6 kilometer mark and never relinquished it. German Oliver Klemet is taking the silver and David Betlehem, also of Hungary, will take home the bronze.

The first group of athletes are teeing off at Le Golf National, where Switzerland's Morgane Metraux (-8) currently holds a one shot lead after two rounds.

Yin Ruoning of China is right behind her at -7. Americans Rose Zhang and Nelly Korda are tied at -2 in 12th place.
