Attending a popular holiday show from the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles? An audience member can expect a rollicking, tinsel-shiny performance, one with zippy takes on traditional carols and a few colorful cameos by superstars of the season, too.
The chorus, which is currently celebrating its 38th season, is well-loved for that lively yearly yuletide treat, but the GMCLA calendar brims with a number of presentations that cover a gamut of themes, some rollicking, as mentioned, some tender and heart-true and timely.
Those are some of the themes that will flower during "I Rise," a special faith-focused concert that will take place at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The huge troupe, which will stand at nearly 500 members during the show, "...will join in song with more than 25 communities of faith during a powerful, first-of-its-kind choral concert."
Saturday, July 8 is the date, and there's a 2 p.m. matinee as well as an evening show at 8 o'clock.
A number of local faith-based organizations are partnering with the GMCLA on the concert, including the First Congregational Church of LA, Soka Gakkai International Buddhists, Muslims for Progressive Values, Congregation Kol Ami, the Selah Gospel Choir, Dignity San Fernando Valley, and Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
