Always wanted to own a piece of LA history? Now you can.
Officials are handing out 1,000 pieces of LA's iconic 6th Street Bridge as part of their "Rock Day LA" Aug. 13. Pieces will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.
Workers have been steadily demolishing the bridge since February, after a chemical reaction rendered the structure unusable. The bridge, which joins Boyle Heights with downtown Los Angeles, is being replaced due to deterioration caused by a chemical reaction in the concrete.
It is the longest of 14 historic bridges that connect Los Angeles communities separated by the LA River. The viaduct became an LA icon in several film and TV shoots, including "Grease," "Terminator 2" and "Lost."
The concrete giveaway event will also include food trucks, music, a photo booth and a science booth showcasing designs for the new bridge.
