Where to Bid Summer Adieu

Autumn is on the wind, yes, but there are ways to still get some summer on.

A Southern California autumn is a bit of a tricky thing, and we don't mean trick-or-treats.

If you've lived here for longer than a year, you know that while the traditional summer season wraps at Labor Day, and the actual summer season ends around the third week in September, summer itself waits for Halloween to fully exit the SoCal scene.

Thank the October-hot Santa Ana winds, in large, sweat-making part, for that last weather-y factoid.

But that doesn't stop our summery haps from wrapping up come late September. We welcome the autumn equinox on Sunday, Sept. 22, and, with it, loads of spooky-spider doings, but there are a few routes to summer go-outs left. Like...

Cinespia: The movies played large inside the Hollywood Forever cemetery is getting a lot of buzz for hosting the sold-out final episode of "Breaking Bad" on Sunday, Sept. 29, but there's still a film left to go in its regularly scheduled summertime series: "Boogie Nights." The oh-so-Hollywood, oh-so-'70s-riffic flick rollerskates into Hollywood Forever on Saturday, Sept. 21 (coincidentally the final night of summer).

Barnsdall Wine Tastings: Call it a summery Friday night meet-up that's as Los-Feliz-y as a Blood & Sand at The Dresden or a slice of lemon meringue at House of Pies. People gather near the Hollyhock House to sip vino from Silverlake Wine and hobnob as the sun sets. Nice? Yes. And there are still a few more to catch before summer goes. Final date: Friday, Sept. 27.

Annenberg Community Beach House: Still haven't cannonballed -- er, we mean, politely stepped into -- this beautiful swimming pool that's right up against the Pacific Ocean, or nearly? There are weekend hours through the end of September. And, nope, seriously, don't cannonball -- there will be others in the pool, gently backstroking -- but do soak up the last of the summer SoCal season at one of the summeriest spots in town.
