You and Ed Asner, Just Lunchin' Together

The LA Theatre Works fundraising auction is flat-out fantastic.

Our town has been known to throw a fund-raising auction or two, and while the items set out on the tables are certainly interesting, and very often rare, a bidder often wants something she can talk about for a few years to come.

Here's something that fits that bill: Lunch with Ed Asner. Oh, yeah. That's right. Or a personal tour of Ed Begley's Studio City abode, which you know is just about as green as all get out. Or a chance to sit in on a read-through of "The Simpsons."

Please. These are some amazing auction items, and only a few places in the city have the power to stir up that kind of wattage for an online auctioin. If you're just about to say "is it LA Theatre Works of which you speak?" we'll reveal here and now it is. The radio theater company is known for attracting really high-profile performers for live readings of interesting and noteworthy plays by emerging and legendary playwrights. So gathering some cool auction items? A snap.

Past LA Theatre Works participants have included George Clooney, Annette Bening, Brad Pitt, Alfred Molina, and Amy Brenneman. Comedian Chris Rock will work with the troupe in the days ahead. So it makes sense that the company's proverbial Rolodex is hefty indeed.

There are a number of celeb-nice online auction items up for grabs -- including on-the-set stuff at both "Criminal Minds" and "Glee" -- so eyeball everything over at Charitybuzz. The lots close on Feb. 14.

Oh, and dinner with John de Lancie ("Q" from "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), too. Come on, Trekkers. This is solid.
