Scattered showers soak parts of SoCal. Here's when to expect rain

On-and-off showers are in the forecast with periods of rain possible into the weekend.

Days of scattered showers are in the forecast for Southern California.

Rain will arrive in two waves, the first being Wednesday into Thursday. A second round of scattered showers begins Friday and continues into the weekend.

Showers arrived early Wednesday in part of Ventura County. Rain and lightning were reported later Wednesday morning in the Long Beach area before more widely spread showers into the evening.

Sunshine is in the Thursday afternoon forecast.

Steadier rain arrives Friday into Saturday morning. A band of steady rain is expected to move across the region late Friday into early Saturday morning.

"This is when you can expect periods of heavy rain, especially into the overnight hours," NBCLA forecaster Stephanie Olmo said.

High temperatures will drop into the upper 60s Wednesday in Los Angeles and on the coast and stay there into the weekend.

The rain arrives at a time when Los Angeles commuters are already facing problems due to the closure of the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles. A stretch of the road is closed after a fire under an elevated section of the freeway over the weekend.

California is drought-free as it enters the wettest months of the year, according to the weekly U.S. Drought Monitor report. At this time last year, 99 percent of the state was in moderate drought with 41 percent of the state in extreme drought.
